Maxey's 29 points lead 76ers to victory over Magic despite poor 3-point shooting (2026)

Against all odds, the Philadelphia 76ers triumphed over the Orlando Magic with a final score of 103-91, despite a truly abysmal performance from beyond the arc. This game was a masterclass in overcoming adversity, as both teams struggled mightily with their three-point shooting.

Tyrese Maxey led the charge for the 76ers, netting a game-high 29 points and showcasing his defensive prowess with three steals. Teammate Joel Embiid wasn't far behind, contributing 22 points and securing nine rebounds. Adding to the 76ers' offensive firepower, Paul George chipped in with 18 points, with 12 of those coming in the crucial second half, and also grabbed nine rebounds. This victory marked the 76ers' fifth win in their last six games, and a remarkable fourth consecutive road win.

On the other side of the court, the Orlando Magic saw Desmond Bane lead their scoring with 23 points. Anthony Black added 21 points, and Paolo Banchero put up a solid performance with 14 points, 11 rebounds, and seven assists.

The shooting stats paint a grim picture for both teams from long range. Philadelphia managed only 4 for 28 (14.3%) from three-point territory, while Orlando fared slightly worse at 4 for 29 (13.8%).

Maxey, typically a scoring machine averaging 30.7 points per game, had a challenging first half, scoring only 12 points and missing all four of his three-point attempts. He eventually finished with 10 for 22 overall shooting, including 3 for 8 from beyond the arc.

Here's where it gets interesting: When Maxey finally hit his second three-pointer late in the third quarter, the 76ers were only 3 for 22 from three-point range, yet still managed to hold a seven-point lead. His final three-pointer, with just over three minutes remaining, extended the 76ers' lead to its largest of the game, 101-85.

Adding to the night's unusual circumstances, referee Bill Kennedy had to leave the game in a wheelchair due to an apparent leg injury.

The Magic were without Tristan da Silva, who was sidelined with back spasms, and Jalen Suggs, who missed his fourth consecutive game due to a right knee contusion.

What do you think? Did the 76ers' victory highlight the importance of other aspects of the game, like defense and inside scoring, when the three-pointers aren't falling? Or does their poor shooting performance raise concerns about their overall offensive strategy? Share your thoughts in the comments below!

Up next: The 76ers will face Toronto on Sunday and Monday. The Magic will play at home against New Orleans on Sunday.
