Nigel Farage's Davos U-Turn: From Critic to Attendee (2026)

After years of criticizing Davos, Nigel Farage heads to Davos

For years, Nigel Farage has been a vocal critic of the annual gathering at Davos, deriding it as a self-important and secretive meeting of those who oppose the nation-state. Yet, this week, Farage will be rubbing shoulders with the very same "globalists" he has so vehemently criticized.

Farage's plans in the Swiss ski resort remain unclear, but his deputy, Richard Tice, expressed hope that Farage would get the chance to speak with Donald Trump, who is also attending the event organized by the World Economic Forum (WEF).

The decision for Farage to attend Davos makes strategic sense, given his party's potential role in forming the next UK government. The event offers a wealth of networking opportunities, attracting world leaders, including Rachel Reeves, as well as influential bankers and financiers.

Tice revealed that Farage intends to use the occasion to inform Trump about his concerns regarding the US's potential tariffs against the UK and other European nations in their efforts to acquire Greenland. Tice believes that Farage and Trump could have a meaningful conversation, despite their busy schedules.

However, this is an unlikely setting for Farage, who has consistently criticized the WEF and its glamorous annual gala, viewing it as an embodiment of the elite's attempts to control politics and undermine nation-states in the name of "globalism".

Farage's rhetoric on these topics has drawn criticism from various groups, including the Board of Deputies of British Jews, who have accused him of veering into antisemitic conspiracy theory territory when discussing supposed plots by bankers to create a global government. Farage denies any such intent but has been scathing about Davos attendees in the past.

In 2023, he labeled Keir Starmer a "globalist" for his association with the WEF. Three years earlier, in a video, Farage described Davos as a place where decisions are made that "bow down to the European Union," criticizing attendees as "people deciding our futures in Swiss ski resorts."

Farage's disdain for Davos attendees is evident, except for one notable exception: Donald Trump. In 2018, during Trump's first term, Farage praised Trump's performance at Davos, expressing a desire for a leader who could inspire confidence, similar to Trump's media-bashing and boastful speech.

The only other attendee to receive praise from Farage was Prince Andrew, whom he congratulated for his comments at a reception in Davos, expressing support for Britain.
