In a powerful call to action, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has challenged over 61,000 newly-appointed government personnel to reflect on their past experiences with bureaucratic hurdles. Addressing this significant group via a virtual platform at the Rozgar Mela, which was conducted across 45 different locations, Modi emphasized the exciting trade and mobility agreements that India is establishing with several nations. These initiatives are not only opening doors for new economic opportunities but are also paving the way for the youth of the country to seize these chances.
During his address, Modi pointed out the increasing global confidence in India, which is translating into a wealth of new possibilities for young people entering the workforce. He proudly noted that India stands out as the only major economy that has managed to double its GDP within the span of a decade, attracting investments from over a hundred countries worldwide. The Prime Minister referred to his government's commitment to reforms, mentioning how the concept of India's "Reform Express" is gaining traction in conversations everywhere, highlighting the crucial role that each new recruit plays in this transformative journey.
He specifically tasked the recruits with recalling any bureaucratic issues they faced in the last five to seven years, whether it was personal experiences in government offices or other interactions where they encountered difficulties or frustrations. Modi encouraged them to remember those moments of inconvenience and irritation, and to take it upon themselves to ensure that such challenges do not plague the citizens they serve during their tenures. This is an opportunity for them to implement small-scale reforms that can greatly enhance the lives of many.
The Prime Minister stressed that beyond just policy changes, the overall quality of life and the ease of conducting business are significantly improved through the integrity of government employees. He urged the young recruits to adopt the guiding principle of "Nagrik Devo Bhava"—a slogan meaning 'the citizen is akin to God'—as they fulfill their duties.
Modi also discussed the remarkable investments in modern infrastructure that are generating employment in construction-related industries. Additionally, he noted the rapid expansion of India’s startup ecosystem, which now boasts nearly 200,000 registered startups providing jobs to over 2.1 million individuals. Furthermore, he spoke about recent reforms in the Goods and Services Tax (GST) that have provided substantial benefits to young entrepreneurs and small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), alongside labor reforms that have bolstered social security for workers, ultimately benefiting businesses as well.
