Ninja Theory's upcoming action-adventure game, Senua, is set to be a bold new step for the series, expanding the scope of combat, adding more puzzle-solving, and introducing a freedom of exploration. The game is a full-on action-adventure, building on the acclaimed and award-winning Senua's Saga: Hellblade II, but with a fresh and different approach. Dom Matthews, Studio Head at Ninja Theory, explains that the game is about giving Hellblade fans what they've been asking for, while meeting action-adventure players' expectations. The title 'Senua' reflects the game's fresh and new nature, and it's not called 'Hellblade III' because it's a different style of game with a different intention. The game is set in Purgatory, Senua's vision of her childhood homeland, and it takes place after the events of both Hellblade I and Hellblade II. The story follows Senua's quest to reach the afterlife and be reunited with the ones she's loved and lost. The game features a bigger and more interconnected world than Hellblade II, with a single map that's twice the size. Players can explore and uncover secrets in the world, and the game rewards players for being perceptive. The combat is expanded with more depth and options, including multiple special Focus Abilities and a variety of weapons. The game also features improved traversal, with increased movement speed and a combination of broad traversal moveset and special Focus Abilities. Senua's journey is seen through the lens of psychosis, and the game invites players to jump in and believe in the world in the same way that Senua does. The game is set to be released in 2027 on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, cloud, and included with Game Pass, and also available on Steam and PlayStation 5. Ninja Theory aims to give games the right amount of time, but with the entire studio pouring their talent and expertise into the game, they're able to create with the same quality at a bigger and deeper scale.
